Community Awareness and Emergency Response
Committee
(CAER)

The CAER Committee was formed in July 1985 to support the Jefferson County Local Emergency Planning Committee, LEPC. This was through voluntary participation of the Southeast Texas Plant Mangers Forum. CAER is a working organization that assists in providing a community outreach program to educate and inform the public on emergency response issues.

The CAER Committee utilizes different methods to accomplish their goals. Wally Wiseguy presents a "shelter in place" message to elementary school age children. The CAER Speakers Bureau is available to make presentations at the request of groups interested in emergency response issues. CAER has purchased book covers with "shelter in place" messages for areas schools. Through CAER, weather radios were purchased for Jefferson County schools, daycare facilities, nursing homes and other targeted facilities. The CAER Committee helped sponsor the Jefferson County Hurricane Conference in June 2000.
